In addition to lupeol, chondrillasterol and p-hydroxybenzoic acid, three flavones were
isolated for the first time from the bark of the Sudanese plant Albizia zygia. The latter
compounds were identified as 3', 4', 7-trihydroxyflavone (1), 3-O-methoxyfisetin (2), and 3', 7-

The latter compounds were identified as 3’, 4’, 7-trihydroxyflavone (1), 3-O-methoxyfisetin (2), and 3’, 7-dihydroxyflavonone (3). Their structures were determined by NMR and MS techniques and confirmed by comparison with the literature. Albizia zygia has ethnomedicinal importance, as the people of the Southern part of Sudan are used to take the bark of Albizia zygia (in the form of powder or decoctions) as native antimalarial drug. The methanolic extract of the stem bark of A. zygia exhibited antiprotozoal activity against Plasmodium falciparum K1 strain1
