New firms are endowed with knowledge and experience at birth through the human capital of their founder (s). Existing empirical research suggests that this pre-entry education and experience will influence the firm’s chances of survival; however, the mechanisms underlying this relationship have yet to be investigated. We seek to better understand and unpack this relationship. So the authors investigated the effect of founders’ characteristics on the survival of their new firms in Mazandaran province through 1981-2012 using hazard function. In our model, founders’ characteristics had two dimensions:(1) level of education and (2) work experience. The Industry & Mine Ministry database has used for data gathering and the data are analyzed using the semi-parametric cox regression model. The results of this study shows that there is a meaningful posetive relationship between work experience and firm's survival, but the level of education has no meaningful effect on survival of new firms. In this research a comparison between companie's survival functions according to work experience has been checked.
