In this work, the ability of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to detect rocks buried in
composite soil is studied in connection with the planned ExoMars mission, as GPR will be
used during this mission to scan the Martian subsurface to help define feasible sites for
shallow drilling. A realistic model of the operating environment is implemented through a full-
wave electromagnetic simulator, taking into account the antenna system and the signal
