Without a global effort to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, global temperatures are very likely to go beyond the 2-degree Celsius even with current policies in place. On the other hand, developing countries face enormous developmental challenges as they attempt to grow their economies in a climate-constrained world. In particular, they face the need to create employment opportunities for their increasingly young demographic and compensate for the jobs lost in the incumbent fossil-fuel industries during a green transition.
