A system integrated with multiple antenna elements suffers from the adverse effects of
mutual coupling arising from the close proximity of the elements. This paper proposes a
method to increase the isolation between microstrip patch antenna elements by using a
metamaterial superstrate. By using this technique, it is possible to increase the isolation up
to the level of 30dB at the resonant frequency with an edge to edge distance of λ 0/18.5
