In a multicenter, randomized clinical trial, the efficacy of ciprofloxacin plus azlocillin was
compared with that of a standard regiment of cerftazidime plus amikacin for the initial empiric
treatment of fever in neutropenic cancer patients. In addition, the efficacy of early conversin
