The physical properties of naturally occurring bulk materials originate from atomic and
molecular arrangements, and are typically coupled. As a result, they lack the ability to have
functionalities across multiple domains, their performance being optimized only for one
physical domain. Nanomaterials offer unique ability to engineer mechanical, electrical and
optical properties independently, making them an attractive candidate for making
multifunctional materials.
