Method Subjects Runners pre-registering for one of four midwestern marathons were asked
to complete a packet of questionnaires and return them by mail. The initial response rates
ranged from 38 to 45%. From the final subject pool of 1075 runners, all older male runners
(age 250) were selected (N= 104). In addition, all male runners between the ages of 20 and
