Aromatherapy involves the use of high-quality essential oils and aromatics derived from plants to cure the diseases. The aim of the study is to screen the flowering plants that commonly used in aromatherapy applications in Arau, Perlis, to determine phytochemicals compound and potential antioxidant analysis of the selected flowering plants. Based on the semi-structured interviewed, 11 types of the flowers had been identified to be used in aromatherapy applications. Qualitative and quantitative analysis for phytochemicals compounds by using Phytochemicals Screening Assay were carried out on the most frequent used flowers. Flowers extract of P. obtusa and P. rubra show the presence of flavonoid, saponins, tannins and phenolic compound. Analysis using GC-MS of flower extract exhibited the presence of components such as Benzyl alcohol, Isobutanol, Ethylene sulfide and Methylthiirane that possessed the aromatic properties to be used in aromatherapy applications and medicine. Meanwhile, DPPH Scavenging activities were done using five concentrations of flower extract. The result demonstrated when the concentrations of flowers extract increase the percentages of inhibition also increase. P. obtusa and P. rubra was identified to have excellent potential natural antioxidants properties. This study was important to ensure the benefits and reduce the usage of synthetic drugs among users.
