Transoesophageal echocardiographic assessment of haemodynamic function during laparoscopic cholecystectomy

AJ Cunningham, J Turner, S Rosenbaum… - British journal of …, 1993 - Elsevier
We have measured cardiovascular changes associated with insufflation of carbon dioxide
and the reverse Trendelenburg position during laparoscopic cholecystectomy, using trans-
oesophageal echocardiography in 13 healthy patients. End-tidal carbon dioxide values
increased after insufflation of carbon dioxide, with values significantly (?< 0.05) increased
after lateral tilt positioning. Creation of a pneumoperitoneum was associated with increases
(?< 0.05) in left ventricular end-systolic wall stress, concomitant with increases (P< 0.01) in …

Transesophageal echocardiographic assessment of hemodynamic function during laparoscopic cholecystectomy in healthy patients

D D'Ugo, R Persiani, F Pennestri, E Adducci… - Surgical …, 2000 - Springer
Background: This study aimed by means of transesophageal echocardiography, to evaluate
hemodynamic changes induced by pneumoperitoneum in patients with normal cardiac
performance. Methods: In this study, 11 ASA I–II patients (mean age, 39 years) with normal
cardiac performance undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy were evaluated. A 5-MHz
transesophageal biplane phased-array transducer connected to an echocardiographer was
inserted after induction of anesthesia. Data were collected at three different times: before …
