Satellite records show a decline in Arctic sea ice extent over the past three decades with a
record minimum in September 2012, and results from the Pan-Arctic Ice-Ocean Modelling
and Assimilation System (PIOMAS) suggest that this has been accompanied by a reduction
in volume. We use three years of measurements recorded by the European Space Agency
CryoSat-2 (CS-2) mission, validated with in situ data, to generate estimates of seasonal
