Abstract The metaluminous-peraluminous Mt. Papikion pluton, which intrudes Kesebir-
Kardamos Dome in Rhodope Massif, has geochemical characteristics of I-type granites
related to volcanic arc tectonic environment. In this work the intrusion age of the pluton is
studied for the first time using U-Pb zircon method yielding 236±8 Ma. It is noteworthy that
such an age is considerably different from the Tertiary magmatism of the broader area. The

Abstract
The metaluminous-peraluminous Mt. Papikion pluton, which intrudes Kesebir-Kardamos Dome in Rhodope Massif, has geochemical characteristics of I-type granites related to volcanic arc tectonic environment. In this work the intrusion age of the pluton is studied for the first time using U-Pb zircon method yielding 236±8 Ma. It is noteworthy that such an age is considerably different from the Tertiary magmatism of the broader area. The petrotectonic data combined with the Middle Triassic age of the intrusion suggest a subduction zone environment, probably related to the subduction of Paleo-Tethys below a block of Gondwana.
