The enzyme taxadiene synthase of the paclitaxel biosynthetic pathway cyclizes
geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP) to produce taxadiene, which is then believed to be
stereo-and regiospecifically oxidized by taxadiene 5α-hydroxylase to form taxadien-5α-ol.
However, when the metabolism of Escherichia coli was re-engineered in the present study
