Background Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) may cause outbreaks in
neonatal intensive care units (NICU). We describe a biphasic VRE outbreak and identify risk
factors for VRE acquisition. Methods After the occurrence of 2 cases of VRE infections in a
