Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) for diseases of the small intestine was introduced into clinical practice in 2001. Over the past 8 years, an annually increasing number of publications have shown that VCE is a reliable, noninvasive method for endoscopic examination of the entire small-bowel mucosa. An esophageal [2] and a colon capsule [3] have also been launched on the market and are under intensive clinical investigation. The aim is to update the previous document published over 3 years ago, in 2006 [4]. The updated recommendations are presented in●" Table 2.
