Alpha-particle-driven toroidal Alfvén eigenmodes in the tokamak fusion test reactor

R Nazikian, GY Fu, SH Batha, MG Bell, RE Bell… - Physical review …, 1997 - APS
Alpha-particle-driven toroidal Alfvén eigenmodes (TAEs) have been observed for the first
time in deuterium-tritium (DT) plasmas on the tokamak fusion test reactor (TFTR). These
modes are observed 100–200 ms following the end of neutral beam injection in plasmas
with reduced central magnetic shear and elevated central safety factor [q 0> 1]. Mode activity
is localized to the central region of the discharge r/a< 0.5 with magnetic fluctuation level B
̃⊥/B∥∼ 10− 5 and toroidal mode numbers in the range n= 2–4, consistent with theoretical …

Alpha particle-driven toroidal Alfven eigenmodes in Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor deuterium–tritium plasmas: Theory and experiments

GY Fu, R Nazikian, R Budny, Z Chang - Physics of Plasmas, 1998 - pubs.aip.org
The toroidal Alfvén eigenmodes (TAE) in the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor [K. Young et al.,
Plasma Phys. Controlled Fusion 26, 11 (1984)] deuterium–tritium plasmas are analyzed
using the nova-k code [CZ Cheng, Phys. Rep. 211, 1 (1992)]. The theoretical results are
compared with the experimental measurements in detail. In most cases, the theory agrees
with the observations in terms of mode frequency, mode structure and mode stability.
However, one mode with toroidal mode number n= 2 is observed to be poloidally localized …
