Abstract
Ph. D. is very important because it gives students the ability to conduct independent research on individuals, to interpret scientific events with a deep perspective and to reach new syntheses. The study aims to reveal opinions of doctoral nursing students on their doctoral education. This descriptive phenomenological study was conducted with 15 doctoral students from different universities. The document review, which is a qualitative method, was used for data collection. The inductive content analysis method was used for data analysis. As a result of the document review, two main categories, negative opinions regarding doctoral education and expectations from doctoral education, and relevant themes and sub-themes were found. The negative opinions regarding doctoral education category involved three themes; negative opinions regarding the educator, negative opinions regarding classes, and negative opinions regarding educational condition, whereas the expectations from doctoral education category involved six themes; expectations from the educator, expectations from the educational method and the curriculum, expectations from thesis and research efforts, expectations from the studentship expectations of the standards of doctoral education expectations of the standards of doctoral education, and expectations from the educational institution. It was found that the students desired standards in place at the beginning, continuation and thesis stages of doctoral education should be restated. It is recommended that educators shape their plans in a way that will allow them to stand as role models for students throughout the process with their attitude and approach.
