Abstract
In recent years, advanced research progress has been widely developed in regard to bioremediation of heavy metal pollution by using bacteria. The biopolymer of bacteria i.e. the extra cellular polymeric substances displays noble physiological, Rheological and physico-chemical properties with special reference to the metal ion sequestration from polluted environment. This paper enlightens the role of exoploysachharide in biomineralization process and their effect on heavy metal sorption mechanism. Moreover, it also discusses heavy metal sorption abilities of EPS by elucidating the mechanism of action and remediation. Based on the review of literatures, further potential work is needed in this context to entangle the mechanistic role of EPS and also explore the cell surface morphology of bacteria for better sorption and exclusion of heavy metals.
