Outcome-based education (OBE) in engineering and technology is focused on the improvement of a learner’s ability to achieve the desired outcomes by focusing on bringing about a change in the skills and attitude. This is largely achieved by organizing it in an educational system along with moving the focus toward the learner and concentrating on outcome rather than output. In today’s modern world, the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is ubiquitous in any domain possible to perform work in a smarter way and offers a lot to the field of education. ICT in education is kind of an alchemy as it offers a partnership between technology and engineering curriculum to assist, enrich and augment curriculum design, content delivery and its assessment. This chapter discusses the role of ICT in engineering education, OBE and its significance in the ever-changing educational context, dimensions, demands, challenges faced while OBE implementation in a traditional teaching–learning environment, use of ICT for analyzing and implementing complementary models such as ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) and addressing higher cognitive levels in all three contexts: design, delivery and assessment. The various tools available in ICT useful for OBE will be discussed and an account of Learning Management System, Content Management System, Massive Open Online Courses and interactive learning environment will be provided. The features such as improved community building, student participation and challenges faced by the users in the currently available ICT tools, responsible for limiting its widespread use, will be discussed. The impact of human–computer interface and artificial intelligence in order to ease the assessment process along with addition of new horizons to attain higher cognitive levels will be discussed.
