Abstract
Aim: To investigate the relationship between peripheral vertigo to neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as an inflammatory marker.
Materials and Method: We had taken 68 patients with peripheral vertigo those attended the Otolaryngology department during January 2014 to October 2016. The systemic diseases, malignancy, neurological diseases or any inflammations in the body were excluded from our study. We recruited 68 healthy subjects those came to the hospital for routine health check up. Detail neuro-otological examination and audiological tests were done to rule out peripheral vertigo.
Results: Neutrophil to lymphocyte count was calculated in all cases and a comparison done between the vertigo patients and control groups. The mean NLR was statistically significant among the patients of peripheral vertigo than control groups (P= 0.0021). There were no stastically significant between patients and control groups when comparing white blood cell count, hemoglobin, mean platelet volume, lipid profile, liver function tests.
Conclusion: NLR is higher among peripheral vertigo and it is stastically significant among patients than control groups. NLR is a potential marker in vertigo with peripheral origin.
