Control of early leaf spot in groundnut by treatment with a select group of chemicals.

After wet seed treatment with cycloheximide, 2, 4, 5-T, 2, 4-D, IAA and cycocel, plants of the
susceptible cv. J 11 were grown in pots and exposed to natural infection by Cercospora
arachidicola [Mycosphaerella arachidis]. Disease severity was reduced by 57-71 and 42-
67% in 2 experiments and there was little or no fungitoxicity. It is suggested that the
compounds acted by conditioning the host to produce a defence reaction, since they were
protective at low concn and there was no graded concn effect on control.
