An organization’s workforce plays a crucial role for the success of digital transformation, as employees need to comprehend and deploy the capabilities of digital technologies. Consequently, cultivating a new level of Digital Intelligence is recognized as one of the most significant workforce challenges on the organizational level. However, this comprehensive acknowledgement is in sharp contrast to the absence of theory-informed models providing guidance for how to stage such an educational uplift. In light of this context, this paper presents a conceptual framework for the development of organizational Digital Intelligence. Grounded in the Dynamic Capability theory, a hermeneutic literature review and a series of expert interviews, a framework consisting of six activities is proposed with the aim to guide organizations in developing a higher degree of organizational Digital Intelligence. The framework’s synthesized process instantiates the Dynamic Capability theory for workforce development and as such forms a theoretical base for future research
