Waste management has become a pressing concern in today's world, necessitating innovative solutions to streamline the sorting and disposal processes. This paper presents the development of an automatic trash bin equipped with proximity sensors and integrated with Telegram notifications. The system aims to enhance waste segregation by effectively separating metal and non-metallic waste materials. The implementation of proximity sensors enables the bin to identify and sort objects based on their material composition, while Telegram notifications provide real-time updates to users regarding the status of the bin. The system comprises of inductive and capacitive proximity sensors, two HC-SR04 sensors, an ESP32 microcontroller, a servo motor, an LCD display, and the Telegram application. Its operation involves the detection of metal and/or non-metallic waste using the inductive and capacitive proximity sensor. Subsequently, the servo motor adjusts the trash bin door based on the identified waste type. Afterwards, the system transmits data regarding the quantity and type of waste to the Telegram server via the Wi-Fi ESP8266 module. Experimental findings demonstrate that the system achieves a high level of accuracy in separating metal and non-metallic waste, and it also provides real-time notifications.
