[HTML][HTML] Dynamical properties of water-methanol solutions

F Mallamace, C Corsaro, D Mallamace… - The Journal of …, 2016 - pubs.aip.org
We study the relaxation times t α in the water-methanol system. We examine new data and
data from the literature in the large temperature range 163< T< 335 K obtained using
different experimental techniques and focus on how t α affects the hydrogen bond structure
of the system and the hydrophobicity of the alcohol methyl group. We examine the relaxation
times at a fixed temperature as a function of the water molar fraction XW and observe two
opposite behaviors in their curvature when the system moves from high to low T regimes …

Dynamical properties of water-methanol solutions studied by depolarized Rayleigh scattering

N Micali, S Trusso, C Vasi, D Blaudez, F Mallamace - Physical Review E, 1996 - APS
The dynamics of water in water-methanol solutions is studied by depolarized Rayleigh light
scattering as a function of concentration and temperature. The obtained data give evidence
of a well-defined maximum in the hydrogen bonding relaxation time at equimolar
concentration. This phenomenon is consistent with the presence of well-defined shells of
water around the methanol molecules as observed recently by means of a neutron
diffraction experiment. In addition, our data show that the water rotational relaxation time …
