The effects of supplementation of synthetic culture media with different energy and protein
sources on in vitro development of pig embryos beyond the 4–8-cell stage have been
explored. Minimal Essential Medium (MEM) supplemented with glucose (1 mg/ml) proved
superior to Krebs-Ringer Bicarbonate (KRB) supplemented with glucose (1 mg/ml) in its
capacity to support embryonic development to the expanded blastocyst stage (P< 0.05).
