Ferrochrome ash (FCA) is a waste material obtained from the gas cleaning plant of a
ferrochromium industry. The feasibility of producing concrete with ferrochrome ash as partial
replacement of cement was investigated by the authors and it was concluded that strength
and durability properties of normal concrete or even more could be obtained on replacement

Ferrochrome ash (FCA) is a waste material obtained from the gas cleaning plant of a ferrochromium industry. The feasibility of producing concrete with ferrochrome ash as partial replacement of cement was investigated by the authors and it was concluded that strength and durability properties of normal concrete or even more could be obtained on replacement of 47% of OPC by 40% FCA and 7% lime. To establish FCA concrete as a structural material, its behaviour on structural concrete has been investigated. This paper investigated the flexural behaviour reinforced concrete (RC) beams containing 40% FCA and 7% lime replacing 47% OPC. The beams were tested under monolithic loading up to failure. The capacity of the beam, its failure and crack pattern were studied. The results were compared with those of beams made of conventional concrete. Test results indicated better performance of FCA concrete than control concrete in terms of load caring capacity, crack resistance ability and ductility.
