Foliage Modeling for Urban Ray-Tracing Simulations Using Satellite Images

A foliage modeling approach for urban environments based on the use of satellite images is
introduced. Foliage blocks are added into a 3D urban model, which originally consists of
only building data. The vegetation blocks, which are considered in the simulation, are mainly
large clusters located in the vicinity of the base station, and are surrounding it. Relevant
comparisons are made with measurement data and the advantages of the proposed method
are demonstrated.
