Global retrievals of solar‐induced chlorophyll fluorescence with TROPOMI: First results and intersensor comparison to OCO‐2

P Köhler, C Frankenberg, TS Magney… - Geophysical …, 2018 - Wiley Online Library
In recent years, solar‐induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) retrieved from spaceborne
spectrometers has been extensively used as a proxy for terrestrial photosynthesis at
relatively sparse temporal and spatial scales. The near‐infrared band of the recently
launched TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) features the required spectral
resolution and signal‐to‐noise ratio to retrieve SIF in a spectral range devoid of atmospheric
absorption features. We find that initial TROPOMI spectra meet high expectations for a …

Global Retrievals of Solar-Induced Chlorophyll Fluorescence With TROPOMI

P Koehler, C Frankenberg, N Parazoo… - AGU Fall Meeting …, 2019 - ui.adsabs.harvard.edu
Abstract The TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) onboard the Sentinel-5
Precursor satellite was launched in October 2017 and collected more than 2.5 billion single
measurements since then. Thanks to TROPOMI's spectral coverage, resolution, and
radiometric accuracy, we are able to retrieve solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) in
a way which exceeds previous and existing capabilities for a spatial continuous monitoring
of SIF from space. In this contribution, we will provide a brief overview of the approach (es) to …
