Background Acute inhibition of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) has been demonstrated to
reduce the anesthetic requirements of volatile anesthetics. Recent data suggest that not only
volatile but also intravenous anesthetic agents interact with nitric oxide (NO) metabolism.
