This overview provides a review of the development of luminescence dating in India,
recounts important contributions and their import on the chronology of the Indian Quaternary
sequences. A brief outline of other applications and future outlook is also presented. Due to
the nature of this review, the focus is largely towards applications, and the methodological
aspects will be discussed elsewhere.
