Results We sequenced the entire mt genome of Sclerophasma and Tamolanica and the
entire coding portion of Grylloblatta and Timema (the non-coding control region of the latter
two could not be amplified). The genome arrangement of all four is identical to that proposed
by Boore (1999) as ancestral arrangement (synplesiomorphic) for insects. Thus
unfortunately no gene rearrangement synapomorphies exist to link Mantophasmatodea to
any insect order.
