We show the design and fabrication of finely tuned alginate core–shell capsules with
precisely controllable core and hierarchical shell thickness at micron scale for scaleup for
mass production. The method developed was used to encapsulate bacteria while
maintaining morphology and mechanical stability of the bead without rupturing and cell
leakage.
