Abriefstudy on the number of publications related to natural fiber composites strengthens the fact that the research in this area has been growing exponentially over the past two decades (Figure 8.1)[1].

More research effort is being directed to finding cheaper, tougher, renewable, and sustainable composites [2, 3]. The need to reduce our dependence on petroleum; environmental concerns, such as global warming, CO2 emission, and sequestration; the shortage of landfill sites; and the corporate and consumer desire to go green; combined with government and international polices are the major driving forces behind burgeoning natural fiber composites [4]. International organizations like the United Nations (UN) and their special agencies such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have also played a significant role in increasing awareness of the importance of natural fiber through promotion of sustainable materials and a greener planet.
