Abstract
In the paper an attempt was made to study the performance of Indian Banks with the help of CAMEL rating system, taking eighteen banks (eight being Private Sector Banks and ten being Public Sector Banks) over the period of ten years from (2004 to 2013) and then finding out their efficiency of banks with the help of DEA in terms of gaining confidence from investors and ranking them accordingly. Our finding suggests that private sector banks are in advantage situation and thereby hinting at the possibility of further improvisation of most of the public sector banks. Private sector banks show marked consistency in their efficiency level during the period under study.
