Abstract
Web based assessment is considered as a value-added service in an e-learning procedure, which aims at evaluating and measuring the outcomes of learning experiences. Providing learners with personalized tests that are appropriate to their needs and prior knowledge would guarantee an efficient learning process. With the important and continuous development of learning and the development of mobile technology environments, the characteristics of assessment activities must change to support continuous monitoring of the learner. The evaluation process should evolve as the environment while maintaining its principles and targeted goals. In this paper we propose a personalized assessment environment for e-learning and mobile learning. We first describe a scenario of e-assessment and m-assessment and then present a description of the personalization process related to these two types of assessment as well as the architecture of the assessment environment, composed of Web services. Communication between these services is performed with semantic Web technologies. The proposed environment allows implementing a personalized assessment for learners, through retrieve, selection of assessment objects and generation of a test tailored to their level of knowledge.
