Due to stiff competition and consumer demands, presently the industries are forced to produce low density products with improved properties and cost effectiveness. Metal foams are light weighted and identified as a new class of materials of great interest due to their unique combinations of properties derived from their cellular structure and metallic behavior. This paper deals with the method of producing porous copper base gun metal castings. Experimentation involves the production of porous gun metal castings by using casting route for forming the porous structures. The density, percentage porosity, cutsection analysis and radiography tests were done to confirm the pores formed in all through the castings. The hardness and compression tests were also carried out to examine the mechanical properties.
