Abstract
Liquid epoxy resins (EEW 189–685) of bisphenol-C (EBC) was synthesized by condensing 1:8 mol ratio of bisphenol-C and epichlorohydrin by using NaOH as a catalyst at reflux temperature for different reaction time (2–3.30 h). Epoxy methacrylate of bisphenol-C (EBCMA) was synthesized by reacting 1:2 mol ratio of EBC and methacrylic acid by using triethylamine as a catalyst at 80 °C for different reaction time (1–7 h), and their acid (10–6) and hydroxyl (156–189) values as well as their molecular weights (550–1542) were determined. Density, viscosity, acid value, gel time, and peak exotherm temperature of EBCMAS are found comparable with Aeroplol-7105. A 40% styrene as a reactive diluent was mixed with EBCMA, which is designated as EBCMAS. Neat and 5% MMT-filled EBCMAS and Aeropol-7105 samples were prepared at room temperature by 1% MEKP as an initiator, 1.5% dimethylaniline as a promoter, and 1% cobalt octoate. Mechanical and electrical properties as well as water absorption behavior of neat and MMT-filled samples are compared with neat and MMT-filled Aeropol-7105. Neat and MMT-filled EBCMAS showed comparatively better studied mechanical and electrical properties. EBCMAS may find its industrial importance for electrical and electronic and marine applications.
