Abstract
Web 2.0 technologies transform teaching and learning and the teachers which have a positive perception of technology, they seem as the most appropriate to run technology-mediated learning projects, because they can support mature students to achieve their learning goals and to construct new knowledge based-on their previous knowledge and learning experiences. This study explores Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Framework (TPACK) and Toondoo, with basic aim to enhance collaboration among students and help them to understand complex learning concepts. After a careful selection of studies from literature based on specific criteria, a comparative analysis of Toondoo, Goanimate and and Fileguru edtech tools, was conducted across six basic aspects concerning students’ learning progress: (i) knowledge of use of the edtech tools, (ii) teamwork, (iii) accomplishment of learning goals, (iv) creativity, (v) motivation and (vi) engagement. Emphasis is given on Toondoo because it was used systematically during the learning process to enhance students’ creativity and motivation. Also, this study tries to answer two basic research questions with a statistical analysis of the data collected with a questionnaire given to mature students of 18–35 age group to answer it. The first research question tries to investigate to what extent students can participate in specific learning activities with digital storytelling, and the second research question explores the students’ learning achievements by using Toondoo in a technology-enhanced learning environment. The creation of an effective learning environment where teachers have the important role of designing, training, coordinating, and monitoring the learning process, is a continuous effort that depends on teachers’ will to run technology-enhanced learning environments. Toondoo and other similar edtech tools can bring the desirable learning outcomes and lead to the achievement of learning goals in a computer science course because they emphasize on how technology can best be used to support teaching and learning.
