The first mammal fossils were reported from the Pondaung area, Central Myanmar (Burma),
at the beginning of the 20th century (Pilgrim and Cotter, 1916). The fossil specimens
included not only large mammals, such as anthracotheres, amynodontids, and brontotheres
(= titanotheres), but also a primate, Pondaungia cotteri which was collected in 1914 and
