Since the first identification of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case in Wuhan, Hubei province of China, on December 31, 2019, it has spread rapidly and is out of control. 1 Additionally, insufficient knowledge from the medical and public health community about this new strain of the virus and lack of transparency around COVID-19 information from government officials have caused confusion to the public, created a breeding ground for misinformation, and its spread through the internet. 2 Misinformation is defined as “any messages that conflict with the best-available evidence about COVID-19, and that would likely not be corrected if they were challenged.” 3 The role of government agencies with regulatory authority has been emphasized in controlling misinformation during the pandemic. 2 Although South Korea has successfully flattened the curve, 4 to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to examine the government’s effort to combat COVID-19 misinformation. By analyzing the posts drawn from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) COVID-19 website, this study aims to examine the types of COVID-19 information posted by the different federal government agencies, and the messages they posted to refute the misinformation.
