BACKGROUND: The role of ischemia/reperfusion injury in the pathogenesis of acute
pancreatitis is still ill-defined. It is accepted, however, that ischemia/reperfusion induces the
development of postimplantation pancreatitis that is responsible for considerable morbidity.
