The possible role of acetylcholine in the rhythmicity of the crop of Aplysia dactylomela (Opisthobranchia: Anaspidea)

DW Wells, RB Hill - Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C …, 1980 - Elsevier
The isolated crop of Aplysia dactylomela has a pattern of spontaneous activity comprised of
1st order small phasic contractions, 2nd order large tonic contractions and 3rd order slow
changes in tonus. 2. Acetylcholine has a positively tonotropic effect on the crop with a
threshold between 5× 10− 7 M and 5× 10− 6 M. 3. Acetylcholinesterase abolishes
spontaneous large tonic contractions of the crop. A normal pattern is restored by 3× 10− 7 M
acetylcholine.
