Summary
The benefits to the body associated with taking regular physical activity, were seen in ancient times. Doctors–Hippocrates or Galen were known for their love for the movement and for their confidence in its positive health effects. However, only in the second half of the past century has there been a breakthrough in the field of motion activity research. According to the source literature, regular physical activity is associated with an increase of body fitness and a number of beneficial adaptations that occur in it, including: lowering systolic and diastolic blood pressure, cardiac economics, muscle and bone mass increase, improvement in glucose tolerance and lipid profile. As a result, regular physical activity plays an important role in the prevention of diseases such as hypertension, cerebrovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cancer (eg colon), osteoporosis, joint degeneration, or in supporting the course of treatment process of selected medical units. From this point of view, it seems very important to promote regular, increased physical activity, individually selected taking into account possible health contraindications, all the more, current civilization progress, in addition to undoubted benefits, entails a number of negative societal behaviors, including excessive energy intake from consumed foods, which, while observed reduced movement activity, may consequently favor the development of diseases in this context.
