A sensitive ELISA for detection of circulating antigens in kala azar patients.
Sera from 20 patients with Leishmania donovani infection were tested with a competitive
ELISA using L. donovani antigen. The optical densities obtained were significantly lower
than those obtained with 20 negative control sera. No cross-reactions were recorded with
sera from 10 patients with giardiasis, 10 with amoebiasis or from 6 hamsters with L.
mexicana infection.
