The article examines the differences in tobacco use and awareness of tobacco marketing by
sex in Bangladesh, Thailand and Uruguay using 2009 data from the Global Adult Tobacco
Survey (GATS). Current tobacco use was found to be higher among males than females in
all three countries but use of tobacco varied by sex. Awareness of tobacco advertising was
higher among females from 15-24 years than older females. Continued monitoring is
emphasized to determine trends in tobacco use and tobacco marketing awareness.
Abstract
