Prejunctional neuropeptide Y (NPY) receptors that inhibit the contractions evoked in rat and
rabbit vas deferons by field stimulation were investigated by using NPY,[Leu 31, Pro 34]
NPY and the fragments, NPY-(13–36) and NPY-(18–36). NPY, and especially [Leu 31 Pro
34] NPY, were more potent agonists on the twitch response of the rabbit vas deferens. In
contrast the NPY C-terminal fragments, NPY-(13–36) and NPY-(18–36), inhibited the twitch
